Products are means to achieve more. They can make life easier or better. At the same time we see that products can have negative consequences for the environment. They can cause pollution and poisoning, both during and after use.
Sustainable products
All products are produced, transported, used and discarded. As product designers we have a big influence on these aspects. For example, we can opt for materials that are broken down by nature – or are completely reusable. We can design a product in such a way that it will last for a long time – or in a way that it is very easy to disassemble, adapt or improve. We can use non-toxic substances and smart production methods.
By making the right choices we can design good products. Products that make the world better, not worse. Products our clients can distinguish themselves with. Products that the customers of our clients choose for specifically, proudly and with conviction, now and in the future.
Sustainable product design offers
- Improvement of the market position through distinctive products
- Opportunities for new business models and cost savings
- The chance to improve customer loyalty
Sustainable design method
We share the Cradle-to-cradle principle to do good, rather than less bad. Choices in the design process are based on the desired life cycle: “waste is food”. In nature we do not want fewer trees because those leaves pollute the ground, but more falling leaves mean more nutrients. Customers of our clients do not have to feel guilty when buying or using a Cradle-to-cradle product, but could do this more.
The circular economy, people-planet-profit, bio-mimicry; they are all inspiring strategies of which we like to implement knowledge and ideas into our designs. We strive to make the right sustainable considerations from sketch to detailing.
“As product developers we can tackle the cause of pollution, which is better than combating consequences or limiting people. For example, designing a car that runs on green energy is much better than a more economical diesel or driving a car a little less often. Do you see opportunities? Contact us“.
More sustainable business models
A more sustainable product can offer opportunities for a more sustainable business model. For example, a business model in which you approach your product as a service. The provision of a service can create a higher and more stable income than the sale of a product. The constant service, instead of a one-time purchase of the product, can lead to greater customer retention. Moreover, it can ensure that your company can keep the value of the products in its own possession: disassembled and reusable materials will be your raw materials and lead to savings in raw materials and production.
